Report: Tigers' Kinsler claimed off waivers by unknown team

The Detroit Tigers have 48 hours to decide what to do with second baseman Ian Kinsler.

Kinsler was claimed off revocable waivers Friday by an unknown team, FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman reports.

The team that placed the claim was apparently in the mix to acquire Kinsler at the non-waiver trade deadline. While the Milwaukee Brewers were rumored to be pursuing the four-time All-Star, they were not the team to place the claim, Heyman notes.

The Tigers have a couple options. They could allow the waiver claim to go through, and the claiming team would take on the remaining $3.3 million on Kinsler's contract. He has a team option for 2018 that can be bought out for $5 million.

Alternately, the Tigers could work out a trade, which would have to be completed in two days, though Heyman adds no deal is expected. If the Tigers pull Kinsler back off waivers, the team will not be able to trade him until the offseason.

The 35-year-old Kinsler is having a down season by his standards, batting .247/.326/.398 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs over 96 games.
